Dr. U. C. Barnes, Sr. is the pastor of
Corinth Missionary Baptist Church
in
Temple, Texas,
First Vice Moderator and Scholarship Chairman of Lincoln
District
Missionary
Baptist Association of
Texas. He is
also a retired fireman.
He was born in
Wilson County, North Carolina
on December 28, 1948. He attended public school in
Spring Hope, North Carolina and graduated
from
Spaulding High School.
On November 27, 1977 he was licensed to preach under the
administration of Pastor J. W. Williams at Pleasant
Olive
Missionary Baptist Church
in
Waco, Texas.
On March 31, 1978 he was ordained to the gospel ministry
by the authority and order of the
Pleasant Olive Baptist Church
in Waco, Texas.
In 1978, Dr. Barnes received the call to the
pastoral ministry of the
Macedonia Baptist
Church
in Waco, Texas, serving from 1978 to
1990. In October 1990, Dr. Barnes was called to pastor
the Corinth
Missionary Baptist
Church in Temple, Texas, where he
continues to provide leadership. He is known throughout
the
Central Texas area
for his innovative and progressive spiritual leadership.
In addition to his pastoral ministry, he serves as: a
member of Interdenominational Ministers Alliance,
Bell County, member of Bell Baptist
Association,
Belton, Texas;
charter member of A. Phillip Randolph, Inc.; member of
Southern Baptist Convention of Texas;
Foreign Mission Board and Evangelical Board of the
General Baptist State Convention of Texas;
member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, F&AM
Masonic Lodge No. 583, and a member of
International Association of Fire Fighters, Local L-0478
(retired).
Dr. Barnes is also a man of vision. He continually
encourages all to build a better and more productive
life through the Word of God and education. He holds a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Education
from Paul Quinn College, Dallas, Texas; Master of Arts in
Religious Education and a
master of Divinity Degree from
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary,
Fort Worth, Texas,
and a Doctorate in Ministry and Counseling from the
Institute for Teaching God s Word Seminary in
Rockdale, Texas.
He is an established believer in expanding God s Word in
many areas and in many ways, Through the divine
guidance of the Lords he: organized a bus ministry, An
Ambassador Chorus( for young adults), Barnes Celestial
Choir (for children), established an education and
scholarship department for
Corinth Baptist Church
and Lincoln District Association,
computer center, church library, and obtained a Texas
Historical Marker.
He married to the former Gladys Foster of
Waco
and has two daughters, and four grandchildren.
